Ashworth College in Dallas, Texas - They have VERY bad customer service!

I enrolled my daughter in Ashworth High School. Before making my final decision, the rep kept calling me back over and over to see if I had made up my mind yet. Once I did and sent all the paperwork in, and paid tuition, I kept seeing extra charges on the account. When i would call I would be put on hold for 45 min- 1 hr at a time. If I left a message no one would call back. So I stopped paying. They finally called for payment, it was then that i asked what the charges were, but the lady didnt know and would have someone call. HA! FInally got someone and they said it was a $50 fee to read my childs previous transcript! Then I got another charge saying I had a returned check fee when I pay with a credit card online! Again, it took 2 months to get this resolved with the same waiting period on hold. I dont have extra time for this. They hope you will just pay it and be done! Also, my daughter never gets an immediate response from her teacher when she has a problem. It takes a few days. Idk what they are doing over there.

Don't feel bad they never called me when I needed help. Took me 12 years to finish on my own.

Agreed,

I am two courses from graduating my Associates in Criminology, and can tell you from firsthand experience that I have had nothing but trouble with customer service. It seemed as though every other week I was on the phone or email with customer service to fix a problem with my portal, books lost etc etc etc.

By far they are the most unprofessional in their field. I fully understood that a degree from a DETC school would not carry much weight, but I wanted to fulfill my dream of graduating with a college degree, but never expected the lack of respect for their students and their educational goals and customer satisfaction.

Stay away at all costs, you will get a piece of paper, but you will not feel the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes with completing higher education. Invest in an established educator who is not for profit, it will pay dividends in the end.

This experience does not surprise me. I have taken coursework through Ashworth.

I knew full well that it was not as good as attending a “real” school nor carried the weight, but what I did learn has helped in my career. What prompted me to examine them more closely was an e-mail I received offering a “back to school rate” for their plumbing course. I had recently requested information about it. I called the number and got someone named “Ira” on the line.

It was obvious that he did not have a command of the English language; not a foreigner, but rather an inability to form intelligent sentences. Furthermore, I could tell he was having a great deal of difficulty reading the information in front of him.

Nevertheless, I explained that I was inquiring about the plumbing course at the reduced rate. It was too good to pass up, as it was reduced by over $400. “Ira” said I could sign up today; all he needed was my credit card or bank info.

Needless to say the red flags went up immediately. Why was he so insistent on getting that info? I explained that I do not release such info over the phone, nor would I give it to a stranger. Ira was “befuddled” at that point.

Rather than waste any more time, I hung up. I then tried to respond to the e-mail that Ashworth sent, but got a message saying that the e-mail account was no longer active.

More red flags went up on that one. If this is what they’re starting to do, I’d be VERY leery of them.

I did check. The BBB rating page was quite literally open on another tab while I was writing that.

It showed the actual physical school (in GA) having an A+ rating.

I did notice that there are more than a few listings for something called Ashworth. Perhaps a different location?

Perhaps a different school? Perhaps a different entity altogether?

Ashworth College in Englewood, Colorado - Associates degree

I graduated from Ashworth in 2008 with an associates degree in Criminal Justice. I never had a financial problem with them or any issues about books. My books were always early and ahead of schedule. If I did need to call them, I would be on hold for about 20 mins. After fullfilling any financial obligations to the school, I was sent my diploma, ring and a letter of congratualtions from the dean. A graduation ceremony was even held, which I could not attend. For the most part I was pleased with this school. I moved on to University of Phoenix for a bachelor's degree, only a few credits from here transferred, I had to take my basics all over again though, none of those transferred, this was the only thing I was not pleased with. It does seem though whatever school you attend and if you go to a new one, most credits don't transfer anyway. I wish everyone luck in what they choose to do

I'm going to have to call this review BS!! Sounds like one of the "employees" of this worthless scam of a school that preys on uneducated people and STEALS hundreds of dollars from each one that falls into their trap. I would recommend anyone that is dealing with or has dealt with this scam of a business to post on every website or forum out there to get the word out that this is a SCAM!!

If you want credits to transfer go to real state schools or real accredited Community Colleges. Although they may be more expensive, the transfer of credits is worth it.

Believe me I've been looking into such schools like Ashworth and Pheonix, but since they hold no true weight in the fields, especially from online courses. I can't give my money away like this.

I attend this school five years ago and obtained my Associate degree in Paralegal Studies. I was pretty; much pleased with the school.

I always received my books whenever they said they were shipping them. I was able to used their transfers credits (48) toward my Bachelors degree, which I received in January 2011.

I will be graduating Next month with an AAS in Criminology from Ashworth as well. Now thankfully I only enrolled for personal gain, basically to complete my degree.

I checked well in advance, and degrees from DETC schools such as Ashworth or online schools such as Phoenix hold little weight with employers especially in the criminal justice field.

Now thankfully I have been in the field some quite some time and didn’t require the degree for employment, but as a case and point I inquired and a current applicant would not get hired with a degree from Ashworth, and would be put the back of the list for regionally accredited online schools such as UOP. If you’re trying to get into the field, enrol in a good community college, or regionally accredited state college.

Ashworth College

Horrible "school." . . . . . you cannot get financial aid !!! Their customer service, if you even want to call it that, is horrible. They cannot fax things in less than 48 hours. They do not respond to your emails in a timely fshion, what-so-ever. We should get together and sue ashworth college for their misleading, slanderous information !! . . . . . . . . . . I withdrew my son Kevin years ago within the 30 day period as required. They said it was no issue.

I never received any literature or notices about any debt. Now he is getting threat letters from a debt collector SIX YEARS LATER saying that it is for a "loan" they gave for him. They have no financial aid. It's fixed payments.

He is not the only one this happened to.

They sent the stuff to him and NOT me. He was under 18 at the time and couldn't enter into a contract anyway.

i have been enrolled in Ashworth for over a year now and i have had nothing but a great experience. they don't offer financial aid because they are already SOOOO much cheaper than any other college, AND they work out a payment plan with you. sounds like you just needed something to fuss about.

@christy

Sounds like you work at Ashworth Christy. They pay you to say nice things about them?

This "college" is a scam. They take your money, and give you nothing in return.

Credits are worthless, and can't even get your degree till you pay these money hungry people in full..... which could be twenty years if you pay their so called low wonderful payment plan.

I am very sad to see all the complaints about Ashworth. I just finished the MA program, and I loved it. I currently work in a healthcare office, and know much of what they were teaching...I did not think any of it was outdated, and I thought it was very useful...

If I were you, I would seriously consider any positive feedback about Ashworth is coming from their damage control department. Please, be careful.

A degree from this college, in the real world, is useless. You are better off applying for a pell grant and getting federal financial aid and attending a "real" college or university from a regionally accredited school.
