The "School" is a joke for education

This school is a joke. You get out dated material, you get no help at all, and the assignments are *** and not applicable to the real world.

I am taking my masters in Criminal Justice. They lied about their tuition special and now claim I owe them $6,000 more to finish their lame program. You get NO communication with the person grading your paper (Supposidly a teacher of some sort). Your assignmnets are suppose to be graded within 10 days, I have yet to get one done even in 20 days.

Half of the websites that they give you for the assignmnets are not there any more. I have to ask the business administrator questions if I don't understand an assignmnet. Then she cuts and pastes from the syllabus, as if reading it in an email will change anything. The classes are lame, and no contact with anyone.

The graders assign you a grade and absolutely no comments back on why you got the grade. They tell you to resubmit a paper, but the computer won't let you. Truly, do not go to this school. It is a degree mill.

Totoaly worthless. I will be making a formal complaint to DETC and hope everyone else does too.

Ashworth college-dead end road

ashworth college is a waste of time. you basically purchase a outdated book and thats all you get. answer some questions summit questions. They say they have a video library but if you try accessing it, nothing happens and of course if you try e-mailing them concerning it, your e- mail will never be returned. if you try to e-mail ashworth with a question, forget it, they will never answer it.total garbage! the book was like a pilation of information retreived from the internet and placed in book form.the author had no real first hand information about the subject.

BeWaRe Ashowarth College is Sub standard to say the least

Communication is horrific! I took one course (home inspection) which in comparison with other schools was very poor (and cheap) - remember you get what you pay for! Then I enrolled to complete, my mostly completed BA...big mistake...spent $1000 to pay in full and they cheated me out of $200 for paying early because their office was closed due to a snow storm. They refuse to budge...despite my telling them that they have lost a TON of referrals and any future business from Me...I had planned to stick with them through to MBA...Never, never, never! Shame on this school and Do Not waste your money...run away!

Ashworth college in a bunch of untruthful scammers

I signed up with them to complete an associates degree with them. I did it online and paid the $15 down payment.

A few days later (about a week) I called to cancel. It has been almost a year and I get a call today saying I owe a $215 cancellation fee and that my account has been placed in collections. Apparently you only get FIVE days to cancel in order to avoid this extremely high rip off cancellation fee.

You do not even receive your first book before 5 days. However, I certainly was not told about this 5 day thing before hand. What a bunch of untruthful people just trying to get money!

Reading through the complaints here, it's really easy to see how many people didn't bother to read a single thing they signed, nor did they peruse any of the information freely provided by the school. Also, many do not seem to understand how any "college" works, let alone one dedicated to online distance learning.

I came here to look through these complaints because I was looking into attending this school. Having visited only their webpage and requesting no information whatsoever - I knew about the cancellation fee, the time limit, etc. that most of the (students) are complaining about here.

Granted, some probably did have a bad experience - these things happen, but, overall, what I see here is people complaining that they never bothered to read anything they were handed and want someone else to blame.

Ashworth college is horrible !!! you can not transfer your courses to any REAL colleges..

.

. this "school" has horrible customer service, you cannot receive financial aid, and you get absolutely no help with anything!!1

Guest

I had the same experience with their online highschool program. I signed my son up with the understanding that he could transfer his credits and I could cancel anytime, but then after two classes, I found out they would not transfer any of his previous credits from 2 years of public high school so I canceled.

That's when they told me there was an almost $200.00 cancelation fee that no one had ever mentioned to me before.

This place is definitely a rip off and I would not recommend it to anyone! I even filed a complaint with the BBB, but they only gave me seven days to respond to Ashworth's response (which was - we strongly recommend you pay) and I missed the deadline so they listed the complaint as resolved.

Guest

if "ashford" really does have a degree from "ashworth" then one would hope they would know the proper use of the words; their and there...."I got my Bachelors from their and in graduate in prestigious school (Ivy league). Also, "I got", please, what a disgusting display of grammar.

Jason Yyg

What these disgruntled people forget is that no school will allow you to study at their school without paying for it. It takes money to run any school because they are all businesses.

I started my studies at public university and was kicked out because I couldn't pay their exorbitant tuition. Ashworth college gives you the opportunity to get great education at affordable price.

Nobody get anything for nothing, and you have to pay for it some how, and Ashworth is the ideal to save money. I got my Bachelors from their and in graduate in prestigious school (Ivy league)

Jason Yyg

Get it. Ashworth College is a great school.

The disgruntled student was a lazy dropout who wanted something for nothing. Schools are run by human beings and do have some customer service problem. I attended Public University in Kansas prior to Ashworth. I am now a second year law student at Ivy League school at the East coast, and I credited Ashworth for the opportunity and my learning skills.

For any student to succeed, they have to dedicate themselves to their study which of course, requires the student to pay for their studies first. It seems in this case that this dropout chose to be a loser and blame it on an affordable dedicated school like Ashworth College.

Accounting and business management at Ashworth College

Four years ago, I enrolled in the course for accounting at Ashworth College. I finished the course, with little trouble, fully believing their BS that it would be immediately accredited and I would be able to find employment. As soon as I had the diploma, I began to look. I was told the school would help, but all they did was give me a useless page of job search sites, basically saying "we think you should do it yourself." I found out, later, that what I had spent a great deal of money for, what I had thought would be a good form of employment, was, in fact, next to worthless. The diploma was only equivalent to an asssociate's degree and most accounting jobs need a minimum of a bachelor degree, or enough experience, which was not provided, that it was, in fact, useless. Then, like an ***, I enrolled for what I thought was the "business management" course, figuring that having that would make me infinitely more employable. However, the materials I received were for improved studying as a student, and had nothing to do with business management at all. I tried to cut ties to Ashworth, and they basically told me I had to pay them, just like the only real reason they were there was to collect money. Thank goodness I finally found out about this.

Not your fault. Many people fall into the lie of Ashworth expecting a degree in something they can use.

Little do they know, their degree is most likely useless in the real world. Seems all good and wonderful, low payments, easy courses, yep, just try using a degree from Ashworth, you will be disappointed. I quickly discovered what Ashworth was all about and got the heck out of there.

I applied to a "real" university, which I now attend, but they almost laughed when I asked if I could transfer my credits from Ashworth.

Guest

I took a course through PCDI (Ashworth Canada) and am quite satisfied with my materials and the communication I recieved. I agree with "Stacey" and think you thought you were eligible for employment assistance and that you did not do enough of your own research to find out exactly what is required for the positon you seek.

Guest

Really? All of your complaints are your fault!

Why would you not look into what the requirements of the job you are looking for? And how do you think you are going to jump right into a job with no experience, you need start at the bottom and work for it! No one can guarantee that you will get a job, nor can they find a job for you! The school gave you the tools to find a job, get off your butt and use them!

If you can't do the work to find a job or do the research to find out what the job requires then you do not deserve it! I would never hire you, you are clearly lazy.

Ashworth credits not accepted by employer

I signed up for Ashworth's early childhood education course, as I am an assistant pre school teacher in New Hampshire, and needed 9 credits to become an associate teacher, and 18 credits to become a lead teacher. Ashworth seemed the answer as I work full time and felt it would be easier than attending the local community college.

I realised that as Asworth is NATIONALLY accredited and not REGIONALLY accredited for this course, so I would probably never be able to transfer the credits to another college. But I thought, no problem, I just need these credits for my promotion. So I handed over my money and got to work.

I completed the first 6 credits and thought 'This is great'. Then one day I went into work and my director said to me 'Your couse is REGIONALLY accredited, isn't it?' NOPE. Well, it turns out that the New Hampshire education department WILL NOT ACCEPT NATIONALLY ACCREDITED COURSES. I spoke to the man who inspects the day cares and pre schools in our area and he confirmed it. He said that they have this problem all the time. People take these NATIONALLY accredited online courses, not realising that they will not be accepted by the state education department. I had wasted my time and money. He told me to go to my local community college. In New Hampshire you can take 3 credits per semester in early childhood education, absolutely free (worth $600)if you work in a state registered center. Maybe your state has something similar?

If you want to learn as a hobby, then this college is great. If you need the credits for your work, you may as well present your employer with a diploma written on toilet paper. THEY WILL PROBABLY NOT ACCEPT THEM. I know it's a hassle, but check first before you sign up.

I am astonished that these people are allowed to do buisness in this country as this is no more than a confidence trick.

These people will tell you anything to get you to sign up. They told me FOUR times that their early childhood education course would be accepted by the education department. At the New Hampshire state level (which is what counts) THEY ARE NOT. *** me for being so trusting. I didn't expect to be repeatedly told such bare faced lies.

The debate about whether or not they will transfer is a red herring. What matters is that they are not fit for purpose. If you bought a bucket to carry water and it had *** in the bottom, you'd take it back right? It would be no good for the purpose in which it was sold to you. An Ashworth college credit will probably not get you any further in your career. Your employer will sympathise, but tell you that they are sorry, they can't accept it. It is not fit for the purpose in which it was sold to you.

Check Ashworth out on the Better Business Bureau site. As I type they have a D+.

If you have already signed up and try to cancel, they will tell you that you have to pay a cancellation fee or (as in my case) kept calling me to demand that I pay $900 for the rest of the course. Kick up a fuss and refuse. They will back down and put your account to 0.00. Get them to email that to you and send you a hard copy. If you have nothing in writing from these people, then it didn't happen. They know every trick in the book.

I suspect that the good reviews are written either by company employees, or those who have not yet tried to use their Ashworth credits out in the real world.

Okay is I just finished a degree in Health Care Administration and you mean to tell me the degree is worthless and I’ve spend 12000$ on a worthless degree

Guest

Nationally accredited credits do in fact transfer to thousands of schools, but one must research to find them. I've done it myself.

Further, you needed to find out what your state or district would accept before embarking on this journey.

Some districts accept them, some don't.

Can't blame Ashworth for that. They never guaranteed your credits would be accepted.

Guest

I am in Philadelphia I am attending Ashworth College I'm about to be done but my credits did count for jobs and school it all depends on who you go to and Ashworth do have a list of schools that accept their credits & some are regional schools so far I have no issues at all with school

Guest

You can be upset, But you wanted to teach early childhood education, and didn't do your own homework. Ashworth is a fine school that offers Bachelor's Degrees at a fraction of what the state schools cost and I can tell you 100 percent its just as good of education....

and guess what your not indoctrinated in socialism and far left ideology. In return it Gives you a better understanding of the real world......

pay 90k and go to a state school and party for 4 years and graduate indebt up to your elbows... Good day

Guest

Though Ashworth may have appeared misleading; the onus of verification was on you. Rather than relying on Ashworth staff to interpret New Hampshire regulations, it would have behooved you to contact the State education department first and asked them if Ashworth met their criteria.

I can certainly understand being upset that you felt misled by Ashworth; but really, your career and professional education is your responsibility.

Seems you did not do due diligence before plunking down your money. Just sayin'.

I completed both my BS Biz admin and MBA at Ashworth and my employer accepted them both (Largest commercial real-estate company in the world). I did get that corner office...lol Basically it's up to you to do your research, different states, different companies, different requirements.

I was a police officer in New Orleans, after Katrina I moved to Texas... Guess what, my credentials didn't transfer... Was that NOPD's fault ???

Do your research, accept responsibility... Just saying

You are saying I owe a bill that I feel I dont owe

Ashworth University you say I owe a bill from 2005 to 2006 that I don't. I paid the first month bill on my second semester of Early Childhood Education and I never received the work books or any of the information to get started so I don't feel like I owe this bill.I called many times to see why I never received my work books and I was told that the Ashworth University had no updated information for me. I know you have been paid for this so you need to fix this so I can have it taking off my credit. And the creditors will stop calling.

I was hit up today with a letter from the creditors saying I owe Ashworth University money. I signed up for two and payed for two programs in full.

I got my diploma (worthless) and now a couple years later I get hit up with a letter. Do not waste your time at this "college". It is NOT worth the money. Any info can be found online or at your library.

Employers looked at my diploma like I was an ***. Was told by many that this college is simply a diploma mill. I'm finding that to be true. Now I'm out almost 2 grand for two pieces of paper that is *** AND still want more money!

I'll be talking to someone. Wish I knew what to do to fix this.

Guest

They did me the same way now I owe $700.00. They sent my hs diploma and didn't send my transcript.

They know say I shouldn't have got my diploma because the money issue. I guess.

This college-hs- they have changed their names so many times my hs diploma says Ashworth university and it started out James Madison-pcdi-now Ashworth university. I have had problems with my credit/transcript that WASN"T MY FAULT.

I am doing the college prep dimploma at Ashworth. I like the classes but some of the customer service reps are very RUDE.

Each one will tell you a different story and you have to call about 5 times to get an exact answer or to get your problem handled. I finnally talk to someone named Walter today and he was very helpful!

I havent had any bad expierences with the instuctors of the classes except for one, her name is Megan Bowen and she was very rude to me in emails. I reccomend Ashworth but just beware that you may have some bad teachers and most of the customer service reps don't have a clue what they are talkng about!

Guest

Ashworth is a business and like all for profit companies, it's about making money and that's what their customer service is geared toward. With that being said, I earned an associate from them back in 2005 before they even offered a bachelors.

As soon as they offered the bachelors, I enrolled in that and will have it completed soon. I have no complaints with the school and have had zero issues with my employer and state standards accepting my degree or credits. Ashworth IS accredited and listed as such with the US Dept. of Education, check their website and see for yourself.

True, a lot of RA schools don't want to accept their credits but it's only because they want you to come sit in a classroom and pay their huge tuition and also have to pay for books etc.

I think that's more of an ego thing among those schools, they look down on anyone that got their education online, but if you notice, most colleges and major universities are now offering degree programs online because they see in this day and age, people have to work and can't make it to a classroom. I hate that you had a bad experience, but I assure you, when it comes to money, you would recieve the same outcome if you had enrolled in Harvard.

Guest

I am enrolled at Ashworth. I find them to be very helpfull. I have had a few tuition issues, and have delt with a few ignorant customer service reps, but it seems the issue is always resolved, and thus far I am happy.

I never took course but have been turned to collection agency.

Recently, I have been receiving calls from collection specialists in India. They are barely understandable and claim that I owe over $800 for a course that I have never taken.

I had never even heard of Ashworth University until the first call that I received. The collection agency is located in Philadelphia but even though they said I had to write to Ashworth and dispute this they could not even provide me with an address to mail it to. He even had nerve enough to get angry when I pointed that out to him.

When I was told they could offer me a settlement, I simply said "Even if you offered to settle for $5 I would not pay because I did not take any course."

Me to I did inquire about classes but learned that I couldn’t use student loans and the credits couldn’t be transferred to a accredited university so I decided not to use this platform of education now almost 10 years later it’s on my credit report and when I try to dispute it it gets validated I don’t understand how they can get away with doing this to people

Guest

Exact same thing is happening to me and I reside in Michigan.

The collection agency letter I have is out of Troy Michigan.

That's the only difference. I've been trying to deal wit th this for over 2 years now.

I have never heard of Ashworth either yet I just learned they are on my credit report so I gave them a call I asked about the information they have on the account and it's not my social or my phone number on the account just my name and no one sent in a down payment for the classes and no one took the classes so why is there a 1500 dollar bill in my name.and their saying that the person signed up for the high school classes two year after I have completed an actual high school. I feel like I going crazy!!!!!!!

Same thing here. Now to collections saying I owe $747.82

Never heard of them and never took any class there.

I've been dealing with this for over two years now and I reside in Michigan. I'm so annoyed I could scream.

My creditor/collection agency says "LVNV Funding" out of Troy, Michigan. Prior to that, The collection agency was "Arrow," in which I thought I had actually taken care of, and I could finally lay it to rest, I now receive this letter from another collection place! I'm trying to improve my credit not damage it further.

Besides the fact that I graduated from a college here in Michigan, why would I even bother with some fly by night, never heard of, ghost school? Ugh.. This has got to be illegal.

NOTE:

We should all Join forces into a class action law suit!

I've never done anything like that, but I am beyond frustrated and that serious, especially due to the fact I NEVER ever heard of them nor took any such class. And I've written letters disputing, stating that I never attended and so on, and it's still not settled.

Therefore, if anyone has any law background information or knowledge, or have any good lawyers in mind, please feel free to get a hold of me anytime. I'm beyond annoyed, disappointed, discouraged and done being scammed from such a place.. My email is: amyknight365@***.com Or text/call me: 616-238-****.

Guest

I am going through the same thing! The lady I spoke to on the phone today stated they show in the system they received a signed enrollment form with my name, birthdate, social and address on it, but can not send it to me. I left a message for her supervisor.

Kristi mine says $818, from Arrow as well.

I'm not sure what I need to do now, but I may poke around and see what information I can get about burden of proof. I know they say I owe them the money, but by law, isn't it THEIR responsiblity to show LEGAL proof (something with my verified signature on it) that I opened that account or in this case enrolled?

Guest

Talking to Ashworth or the creditors is useless! I can be nice and courteous and even give them my info that I had saved and they still insist I pay!

I don't know what to do.

I don't exactly have the means for a lawyer. I'd like to know what to do next...

Guest

I just checked my credit report and Arrow Financial is on all 3 credit reports. I have never heard of Ashworth University!

And the collection agency Arrow says I owe them $918! This is crazy!

I disputed this on my credit report but will be contacting Ashworth University first thing Monday morning. This is so scary and stomach churning.

I did a little research and found out that Ashworth used to be called James Madison. I did take some online classes with them.

However, I cancelled and settled with them by paying hundreds of dollars. Now, they have been renamed to Ashworth and are trying to get me to repay? No way. It's been settled.

I already paid, and they should have a record of this. I am pissed off because they put it on my credit report, and it's affecting my application for refinancing my home.

So mad. They are just trying to rip people off.

Ashworth University

I have been a student for approximately 2 years, at first it was great. Because I could work my two jobs and do my studying at my own pace, not being able to attend a real classroom. Now I am not so happy with them, due to I cannot even get them to send me a bill every month for the tutition payment. When I call the school, the person who answers the phone is so rude and cannot understand what I am asking for that I get passed around to the next person and they tell me that if I do not pay the $300.00 that is now owed it will go to collection. Well send me the monthly bill and I would. Ashworth was great in the beginning, do not understand what the heck happened. Please people really check this school out before you decide to enroll, wished I had.

Thank you for posting your concerns i know now to stay away from this school.

:) Once you realize that most schools are like any other business, they exist to profit financially, you can say you passed Economics 101 and it didn't cost you a dime. Ashworth provides you with a foundation to build on.

As a past student of Ashworth I can say they you may encounter the same problems as you would with any other college. Deal with it-it's a part of life and it's a learning experience. They're preparing you for your next step...employment in the real world.

And oh yea...there are no guarantees in life after your education. You have to get out and go for it!

Guest

I have been a student of Ashworths for over 3 years now. There have been bumps along the way but none that couldnt be fixed. The Customer Service has always been wonderful to me and I absolutely love them. From my first class to now my third semester I absolutely love this school. They worked with a very difficult student who has changed her programs about 7 times now

If you have any questions or just want to get to know a fellow Ashworth student before signing up drop me an email (YES That is how much I like this school - I am willing to give out my email) Shilding@***.com

BTW Over 3 years the 5 problems I had were resolved within an hours time. When I got my gfirst AA degree at a community College I had so many issues and problems I couldnt stand it. You will always have something come up but with Ashworth you can easily get them fixed with one email to an Ashworth Advisor or heck give them a call. I find emailing the Advisor works better because that is one person who will follow through until the end while calling in you get transferred.

And so you know I am a VERY difficult student because I have problems with my mail, computer and change programs yearly. Ashworth has been very understanding and once even overnighted all my books for me after I lost them on a trip - AT NO CHARGE! A brick and Morter school sure as heck wouldnt do that!

Guest

I am enrolled in the Medical Assisting program and i finished it in 11 months and i have never had a problem with Ashworth at all.

Ashworth University promised me a Travel Degree. I paid for it but they won't honor that.

I paid to take the Travel Agent course and have paid that in full. When I spoke to student services about taking my last tests, they said no problem as long as I could send them a paid in full receipt, which I did. Now they want me to re-pay for the whole class. Which will mean I have paid for the class twice! I never even received all of the materials I should have. I cannot believe that a "University" of any sort could say here's what the course costs, you pass and pay for it and you'll receive a degree, but then you pay pass everything up to that point and just not let you finish the course you paid for, oh unless you're willing to pay for the class again.

Ashworth offers a "Travel Agent diploma", not a degree.

As for Ashworth's

accreditation, their high school is regional accredited; their college has national accreditation.

Always do research, there is a online school that can fit your needs. You just have to find it!

Just my 2 cents.

Ashworth university

I'm getting charge by this "school" which i never even heard of till they sent me a letter that seem to like it was a scam to be honest. a charge of 2hundred something odd dollars. which I'm not gonna pay by the way. its also giving bad credit. too top it off i was already attending college FYI not with them it just doesn't add up. doesn't seem right that I'm getting negative feedback for my credit. when its not even my account never heard of this freaking school the i supposedly owe. better yet i got two notifications from the collections agency never once did i receive a bill.

God dam who the fu.k wrote the above complaint. How embarassing this is for the rest of us with an american education.

Dude my 6 year old niece can write better than you.

Lord have mercy!

How old are you?

And I'm referring to the original poster

Sounds more like identity theft than the school charging you for no reason.

Whoever wrote the above obviously flunked high school English. A perfect example of the dumbing down of America.

Ripoff University

Ashworth University is a ripoff, I am being charged for a course I requested information for, now I have a collection agency trying to get money for information material. If I would have known that I was going to be charged, I would never have requested any information from them. I never received any applications be it via internet or mail for the medical billing and coding class that they are offering. When I called the collection agency, the not so customer service rep. got very nasty and loud with me when I asked for the number to the university, she slammed the phone down in my ear. I tried calling back four times from 4 different cell phones and she ignored my call and sent it to the voice mail after the first ring.

Similar story, but the sales rep apparently put in a fake payment for the down payment. Now they have sent it out for collection.

Ripped off, mistreated or otherwise wronged

Ashworth College has wrong hundreds of students, the evidence of which can be seen throughout the web in RippedOff Reports, PissedConsumer posts and every forum with any kind of online education association. Yet they continue to operate without consequence. They maintain a significant student base that remains ignorant of these transgressions, most by choice, and who can blame them? We love the idea of what Ashworth offers; an affordable education we can obtain from the comfort of our homes while working full time. Naturally a majority choose to look the other way while a consistent percentage of Ashworths student base is brazenly ripped off or otherwise mistreated. After all, it hasn't happened to them... yet, they don't have to worry...

I seek to enlighten those who have not yet suffered the emotional and financial hardships so many of us have endured at the hands of Ashworth. So please, put ink to paper or in this case, finger to key and tell your story, who knows... someone might be reading.

I was totally took back when I received my Module 2 course work and received a photocopied textbook. WHAT?

So I called the school and complained about the money I paid them and why I was getting photocopied textbooks? I had to buy my own textbook from Amazon they did refund me some for that, but why are we getting photocopied textbooks?

Isn't that illegal the books are copyrighted and I am sure they do not have permission. Anyway, when I called to complain the school tried to make it out they did not know why I got a photocopied textbook??
